Meteorologists from across the country developing the 2023/2024 National Rainfall Season Forecast

This critical undertaking comes at a time when an El Niño episode has been predicted—an event known to significantly influence rainfall patterns in Southern Africa. In light of this, the Zambia Meteorological Department (ZMD) is intensifying efforts to analyse all available meteorological data and climate indicators to ensure that the forecast is accurate, timely, and reliable.

Once finalized, the seasonal forecast will be officially launched by the Minister of Green Economy and Environment and will serve as a key decision-making tool for various sectors including agriculture, disaster preparedness, and water resource management.

The ZMD remains committed to providing actionable and science-based weather and climate information to help safeguard livelihoods and promote national resilience.
